A new press release from the Larry Walker for State Senate campaign:
The San Bernardino County Safety Employees Benefit Association (SEBA) announced their endorsement of Larry Walker for State Senate today. SEBA represents public safety employees within San Bernardino County, including Sheriff’s Deputies and many other front line public safety officers.
“For three decades, Larry Walker has stood shoulder to shoulder with law enforcement and public safety officers to give us the legal and financial resources to combat gang violence and keep drugs out of the hands of our children,” said Laren Leichliter, President of San Bernardino County SEBA. “The San Bernardino County Safety Employees Benefit Association is proud to endorse Larry Walker for State Senate because we believe that he will take the same common-sense hard-nosed approach to Sacramento.”
“I’m a believer in the power of public service, and I am proud to be endorsed by the San Bernardino County SEBA because there is nobody who represents public service better than our uniformed public safety and law enforcement officers,” said Larry Walker. “Like me, SEBA understands that although tough law enforcement is important, keeping a community safe isn’t just about getting tough. It’s about building a civil society where neighbors look out for each other, and where public-spirited groups form networks of trust and service. I want to emphasize crime prevention as well as enforcement”, Walker continued. “Kids should have access to community mentoring programs that keep them from joining gangs in the first place.”
Walker has represented large portions of State Senate District 32 as a local elected leader for over thirty years. He currently represents all of San Bernardino County as the elected Auditor-Controller. He previously represented the cites of Chino, Ontario, Montclair and a portion of Fontana for three terms on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Prior to that, he served as a City Councilmember and Mayor in the City of Chino. Larry, his wife Carri, and their sons Mac, Will, and Tyler, live in Chino.
California’s 32nd State Senate District encompasses the cities of Colton, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rialto, San Bernardino and part of Chino, and the unincorporated communities of Bloomington and Muscoy in San Bernardino County; and the City of Pomona in Los Angeles County. Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod is expected to resign from the seat prior to her inauguration into Congress. The Governor will then set a date for a Special Election to be held in 2013 to fill the vacancy.
